midsommar

Kontext

“The vase collection MIDSUMMER - all mouthblown - for classic Swedish glass maker Orrefors. The collection takes its name from a Swedish folk-lore tale “7 sorters blommor”, stating that if you pick seven different flowers during midsummer eve, then place them under your pillow, you will dream about your upcoming love. The collection consists of seven different shaped small vases (all to be made in this version one time only) that will be renewed from year to year. A true collectors item.” - Claesson Koivisto Rune The vases are named after 7 different meadow flowers that are recommended to collect by the nature conservation association.

Process

I was tasked with generating and interpreting over 100 shapes for the vases. After each elimination round, that was made collectively by every member of the studio, I made more detailed renderings of the proposed objects. After 5 rounds, a selection of 7 vases was made. It was also my responsibility to plan and execute the presentation. The project was approved by Orrefors. There have been some changes made in the series due to production costs and tequnicall difficulties from presentation to launch.
