2021 The idea to balance the thin and fragile with the large and robust inspired us to design a piece of furniture that challenges the notion of classic lounge seating. The design process has been guided by workshops through which we have combined different shapes, volumes and colours, searching for the perfect balance between the hard birch and the soft cushions. Åsa is designed to have no apparent front or back, and thus is welcoming from all sides, offering versatile seating with its long and movable cushions. A flexible piece with a unique and playful identity, Åsa stands out from the crowd.

Proceso

The brief from Storängen Design was to create lounge seating for hotels and offices. They wanted a unique piece that could work in different types of environments and be versatile. A important part of the brief was to incorporate textile elements into Storängen Design’s wood heavy catalog. After many sketches and a lot of brainstorming, we decided to create a piece that would not grab too much attention so that it could be used in different environments but still have a unique personality.
